Greg Hersey is a recent graduate from the University of North Florida School of Music with a Masters degree in Percussion Performance. He has studied with renowned instructor Charlotte Mabrey, Kevin Garry, Danny Gottlieb and Benjamin Wiseman. Greg currently resides in Jacksonville and is involved in the community theatre scene preforming and serving as musical director in various productions.He has served as the Principal Percussionist for the University of North Florida’s Wind Symphony under the direction of Dr. Gordon Brock. In 2015 Greg was 1 of 30 semi-finalists nationwide in the Guitar Center Drum Off, representing the state of Florida and southeast region. Greg was also a Grand Finalist in the 2016 Blue Man Group Drum Off hosted by Florida Music Festival. Greg is an active member of the Percussive Arts Society and attends the annual PAS International Convention.
Greg currently works as an educator/freelance percussionist in the Jacksonville area and surrounding communities. Greg offers private drum set and percussion instruction to students in the Jacksonville area. He is an adjunct faculty member at Episcopal School of Jacksonville under the direction of Dr. Joe Montelione. Greg is the full time percussion instructor at Atlantic Coast High School and Providence School of Jacksonville. Greg also serves as the primary percussionist for the Sunset Music Team at Palms Presbyterian.
Church and Fort Caroline Methodist Church. Greg has been very grateful and fortunate to work with various drum companies and their products. He is an artist for and endorses the following companies; One Beat Better, Cympad felt optimizers, Drumtacs, RimRiser, DrumDial and KickPort International. Greg has received national and international recognition from “Drum Talk TV, Vic Firth, DG2G, LowBoy Beaters, The Drummer’s Database and KickPort International” resulting in thousands of views and a great deal of exposure.
As an educator and performer, Greg dedicates all of his time to improving his percussive skills and knowledge. With such a strong passion for percussion, Greg finds educating aspiring percussionists to be a tremendously rewarding experience. He hopes that his instruction and love for the arts will encourage others to pursue and embrace percussion the same way that he has.
